Dear Fair Share Farm CSA Members,
Three important announcements.
1. I'm changing delivery this week to Saturday morning in Portland because of lots of back-to-school events in Portland this week. Please let me know if we need to make a different arrangement and we'll work it out. For those of you around Wayne, your boxes will be ready on Saturday morning for pick up at the farm.
Another big box this week! I'm not quite sure what's going in so please take the list of veggies this week with a grain of salt.
2. We're in the second month of severe drought in Maine and our farm pond ran dry in August. That's taken a toll on our winter squash and pumpkins. We've got plenty of veggies for the next couple weeks, but I've decided to double you up with veggies for week 16 and then cut the season one week short. To make it up to you, I'm happy to refund 6% of the price you paid for the full 18 weeks, OR I'll add an additional 6% discount to next year's CSA veggie box (in addition to the 10% you get as a returning customer). If you'd prefer to donate that percentage to farm upkeep, I'd appreciate it, but "fair's fair" at Fair Share Farm so please let me know if you'd like the refund now or the discount for next year.
The good news is that we received a grant from the State of Maine and we'll be drilling a well this fall that will solve our irrigation problems for the future.
3. Mark your calendars! We're planning a farm day for October 11. You're all invited to the farm to see what we do and to pick your own veggies from whatever's left in the fields at no cost. AND, if you're up for it, we'll be doing an old-fashion barn raising--actually a greenhouse raising--so we need 30 pairs of hand to make light work. We'll provide lunch and refreshments. Bring friends and family. All are welcome. I'll send an RSVP link next week.
